Very famous also in the area are the sand boarding and quad biking possibilities in the sand dunes. We tried the quad in the desert, and it is really fun!

Dune 7, Swakopmund - Namibia

Driving along the beautiful dune coastline of the Namib desert in direction of Walvis Bay (30 km south of Swakopmund), with the see usually foggy on one side and the never-ending dunes on the other, is a breathtaking experience.

However, if the wind is blowing (mostly in the mornings), it is absolutely not recommended to attempt it, as you can't see at 10 meters and the sand storm will definitely waste your car.

In our case, we had to wait the whole morning in Swakopmund to even have a chance to see the sea through the sand storm!!!

On the way to Walvis Bay, you find the famous dune 7, the highest sand dune in the area.

I did climb to the top, even if I thought I was never going to recover from it after (30 minutes after - at least - I was still lying out of breath under a palm at the bottom, and the muscles in my legs were aching so much that I was ready to collapse!).
